SCOUG OS/2 For You - October 1997

What's Happening at Warpstock?
And why you won't want to miss it!

Make no mistake, the SCOUG Open House in July was a pretty special event. Those who attended can think of it as a sort of dress rehearsal for the 2-day long Warpstock later this month.

Oct. 25th & 26th

Remember, the last weekend of the month is the big one for OS/2, at least in our neck of the woods. Warpstock is being held at the AQMD facilities in Diamond Bar, close to the intersection of the 60 and 57 freeways.

Getting to Warpstock

  • Take the 57 to the 60, or vice versa.
  • Exit onto Grand Ave heading east.
  • Turn right onto Golden Springs Drive.
  • Turn left onto Copely Drive.
  • Take Copely up the hill.
  • The AQMD is on the right, at 21865 E. Copley.
  • Park anywhere.

SCOUG members may wish to car pool.

It would be crazy for each of us to drive our own car to the AQMD without making some effort to car pool! At the October meeting we will have several sign-up sheets available to help people coordinate their carpools. If you would be willing to take a couple of others with you, make sure to put your name, address, and phone number at the top of one of those sign-up sheets! If you are looking for a ride and don't find someone close to you, there will be a special sign-up sheet for you - and hopefully we'll be able to match you with a driver. If you won't be at the meeting, but do want to car pool, send a quick note right away to Carla@scoug.com.

Plan on getting there early.

Events start at 8:30 on Saturday and Sunday, but you may want to be there a little earlier to sign-in. There are 6 presentation times during the day which wrap up at 6:30. On Saturday evening there will be a party to celebrate OS/2's ten year anniversary - so plan on hanging around for the fun.

People are coming from all around.

Sure, many people will be locals. But, you'll meet a lot more than just SCOUG members at this event. OS/2 lovers are coming to Warpstock from far and wide, like Phoenix, New Jersey, Australia, Buenos Aires, and Germany.

Some of the presentation topics are:
OS/2 Past Present & Future
Warp 4 vs NT 4
Building a Home/Small Business Network
Computer Telephony Integration on OS/2
Photo>Graphics
Get on the Internet with Domino and Warp 4
Softouch products
Internet Connection Server
REXX - Intro & Advanced
The Latest on OS/2 Hardware Compatibility
Managing your Warp Hard Drive Environment
Netscape Communicator

OS/2 Problem Determination I & II
Network Computing and Workspace on Demand
REXX Enablement of OS/2 Applications
Selling OS/2 to the Home/SOHO Market
Stardock's OS/2 Solutions

Of course SCOUG will be there!

You know, this user group just loves a party. That's why SCOUG will be at Warpstock with bells on, as they say.

SCOUG will have a table where we'll hand out brochures about the club and our SIG's and sell our beautiful logo'd t-shirts.

SCOUG will have demonstrations by members showing how they use OS/2, like Tony Butka with scanning and color printing.

SCOUG will have its OS/2 Museum packed to the gills with memorabilia and machines running lots of different releases of OS/2.

SCOUG member & proud of it.

Want to rest your feet for an hour or two while you talk to interested folks? Be a SCOUG volunteer at Warpstock. It'll be rewarding for both you and the club. Sign up on the SCOUG Web site or contact Rollin directly if time is short (Rollin@scoug.com).
