April 18th: Visual Age for Java
Already had your early morning Java? Well, you're in for a special
treat as our new president Terry Warren (congrats, Terry!) enhances that
caffeine high, serving up a freshly brewed presentation of Visual Age
for Java.
For those of you, who, like me, prefer their coffee beans still on the
plant in Hawaii, this month's presentation will be just the eye-opener
we need. For non-programmers like me, we'll be able to see what the
real excitement is all about with this application that lets folks brew
up a fresh pot of fine applications that will run nicely in our OS/2
mugs.
Okay, enough of these silly overused metaphors. Come see Terry demo
this fine app at our next meeting! Then some Q&A, some raffle stuff,
and it's time for the Saturday SIGs to take over:
General Interest - Paul Wirtz always has an interesting topic up his
sleave.
Programming - will hear reports from JavaOne, discuss future direction,
and time permitting, review the current state and planned phases of the
SCOUG Raffle program.
Later in the month
The Internet SIG meets on the 3rd Monday, April 20th, at 7 PM at the
OCIPUG Resource Center in Santa Ana. They will address some of the hot
current events and products of the internet. Be sure to check the web
site for the latest info, and contact Dave (dwatson@deltanet.com) if
there are topics you want to learn more about or would like to present.
The SCOUG Help Desk meets at the same time and place as the Internet
SIG. The focus of the Help Desk this month will be to demonstrate the
use of the "fastkick" utility to install fixpacks without having to
create diskettes.
On Tuesday, April 21st at 7 PM, the Networking SIG meets with the OCIPUG
OS/2 SIG at their facilities in Santa Ana. Lotus Notes & Domino will be
the theme for our SIG activity this month. We will experminent with
installing a Notes client from a network server and and executing a the
client from shared code stored on a server. Additonally we will setup
our network to access multiple Notes Servers. This will be a challenging
adventure for us and we hope that you will be able to come join us.
