Subject: SCOUG-General: Email to Usenet

At the last general meeting, Mr. Watson mentioned in passing public
Usenet servers, some of which allowed reading UseNet newsgroups,
but did not allow posting to newsgroups.

I don't know if everyone else is aware of this, but
you can post to most newsgroups by sending your post via email to:

MAIL2NEWS-YYYYMMDD-@ANON.LCS.MIT.EDU

OR

MAIL2NEWS_NOSPAM-YYYYMMDD-@ANON.LCS.MIT.EDU

where YYYYMMDD is the date (for example, 19980711 for today, 11 July '98)
and is the newsgroup name you wish to post to (for example,
"alt.test")
The second address ("_NOSPAM") will mutilate the "from" and "reply to"
addresses to make evasion of spam feeding address scanners to have
a more difficult time of locating you.

Example:
MAIL2NEWS_NOSPAM-19980711-alt.test@anon.lcs.mit.edu

Send a message:

To: Mail2News@anon.lcs.mit.edu
Subject: help
Body: blank

to get information on what news groups are served by this gateway.
Feel free to contact me if you need or want any further explination on
this.
