Subject: SCOUG-General: Thanks for Fix Pack# help

Just a note to thank Paul Wirtz, Rollin White and Jerry Rash
for the help with my Warp 3 Fix pack 35 installation problems over
the phone.

Any way, I got the Fixpack 35 install ironed out.
Outline of procedure to install if Windows support is on a
different drive volume from the basic OS:

(definition: Backup/Restore = xcopy to/from Zipdisk, with almost all
switches on, from OS/2 command line -
xcopy Z:*.* *.* /s /e /v /t /h /r /o)

1) backup d:winos2 and it's subdirectories (and whole \OS2 directory
while your at it :-) )

2) go to 'Selective Uninstall', and uninstall windows support

3) reinstall windows support, this time to the same drive volume
as the basic OS.

4) restore original Windows support, overwriting fresh install with
old installation, only on the different volume.

5) 'apply' the fixpack

6) backup 'serviced' winos2 directory

7) go to 'Selective Uninstall', and remove windows support.

8) go to 'Selective Install', and reinstall windows support,
this time on the volume you really wanted it on all along.

9) restore backup of the 'serviced' installation, overwriting
the fresh install

10) 'Seek and Scan' WINOS2 & subdirectories for references to directory WINOS2
and change it and CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to the right drive volume

(Hey, I just realized this is a 'Ten Step Program'! :-))

This works with minimal use of WIN-OS2, anyone with a lot of
Windows objects floating around on their desktop might need to
save the settings for these to files before starting this, and rebuild
them afterward.

When trying to backout, slightest change in any of the updated files causes
a CRC error and there is no apparent way to override it within
the 'service' program - you have to either tediously undo any tinkering
or delete the root:\os2\install directory, and use backups
to overwrite the installations current state.

Anyway, I've got the new removable media support installed and
am enjoying a newly installed ATAPI internal Zip drive,
and plan to benefit from other advantages of Fix Pack 35.
