Subject: UMAX Astra 1220P Scanner
I need to install an Astra 1220P (parallel port) scanner to run under
WIN-OS/2 on my Warp 4 system; but can't get the software to see the
scanner. UMAX says they "actively support" installation on the Mac OS
and Windows OS (sic). Have installed and reinstalled everything "by
the book", but no success.
Has anyone been around this track, successfully, before me? Would be
grateful for any words of wisdom.
Details: Ample memory and HD space. Installed the UMAX software in
D:\UMAX\ (the first partition on the second HD--the same
partition that contains other Windows 3.1 applications.)
Default printer is "HP LaserJet III on LPT-1"
The scanner cable is connected to LPT-1 and the printer is
connected to the printer-output port on the scanner. The
printer works fine.
Power to the scanner is turned on and both the indicater
light and the scanner light are lighted.
The scanner optics "restraint" is unlocked.
The AUTOEXEC.BAT file used for the scanner has been modified
as required.
The software seems to function properly until any attempt is made to use
the scanner (either to run the scanner test or to initiate the power-
saver function) and then it reports it cannot connect to the scanner.
UMAX error code: 00140E05h, and in some cases identifies it as a "Twain
error."
TIA.
