Tunnelling is where you have to traverse a net with an alien protocol, like
DECNET or SNA, and you want to preserve the capabilities of your protocol, like
IP routing. So you have a gatweay device that translates your protocol to the
alien protocol so it can get to the next gateway where it can be unwrapped and
continue on its way.
