OK, this isn't strictly OS/2, but this is news from the OS Wars
front.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend one or both of the talks
by Eric Raymond later this week. The press release follows.

(Sorry Peter, I am just passing this on. Clay has not had your
crash course in creative quotation.)

PRESS RELEASE - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

To: Members of the Media
From: Clay Claiborne, President, Linux Users of Los Angeles
Re: Linux Los Angeles Mini Conference
Date: 11/25/99

Linux Users of Los Angeles (LULA) is bringing Eric Raymond to Los
Angeles for a series of presentations on December 3rd and 4th.

Eric Raymond is a long time Linux hacker. He is the author of the
Hacker's Dictionary and many Linux HOW-TO papers. His famous on-line
essay The Cathedral and the Bazaar recently published by O'Reilly and
Associates has been widely adopted by the Open Source movement as its
manifesto. Among other things, Netscape credited this document with
convincing it to make its Navigator browser open source. In the famous
"Halloween papers leaked by Microsoft employees, he first broke the
story of Microsoft's strategy for combating Linux. He was also
instrumental bringing Linux to the attention of the business community.
For example he is credited with getting Linus Torvalds on the cover of
Forbes in August '98.

He is also a board member of VA Linux Systems, the leading Linux
computer maker.

More recently he has been traveling the world as a principal spokesmen
for Linux. Recent speaking engagements include Linux World, August '98
in San Jose, Internet World in NYC, Atlanta Linux Showcase, Bob
Metcalfe's Agenda 2000, Santa Clara Bar Association, Forbe's New
Economy
Conference, Goldman Sachs, NYC, Alternative Linux in Montreal Canada,
Merril Lynch's Technology Advisory Board, Norwegian UNIX User Group,
and
Trinity College, Dublin.

Now he comes to Los Angeles for two exclusive speaking engagements
sponsored by Linux Users Los Angeles. These will be as follows:

USC's Taper Hall 101 at 7:30PM on Friday December 3rd

Caltech's Beckman Institute Auditorium at 1:00PM on Saturday December
4th

Topics to be discussed include:
Linux and Open Source as Social Revolutions
Open Source Business Opportunities in LA
The Future of Open Source Operating Systems

A panel discussion involving leading members of the Linux community in
Los Angeles will follow Eric Raymond s presentations

In the spirit of the free software movement, admission to these events
will be free, but seating is limited and donations will be accepted.
