Subject: SCOUG-General: Windows security over the Internet (May apply to OS/2 machines as well)

Content Type: text/plain

If you're curious about how secure your computer is over the internet, you
may want to check out this PCMagazine article. This is especially
important if you have a cable modem or DSL connection, where your computer
is always on the internet.

http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/stories/firstlooks/0,6763,2377223,00.html

Essentially the article discusses a website that will probe your
Windows-based computer to see how much information your computer is
broadcasting/revealing about itself over the internet. Kinda revealing.
Since the site primarily focuses on the NetBios and NetBios over TCP/IP
protocols on a Windows-based machine, it may apply to OS/2 machines as
well.

I'd be curious to find out how much information an OS/2 machine gives out
if it is running NetBios over TCP/IP.

The website that does the probing is:
