Subject: SCOUG-General: Tuning OS/2 for legacy DOS

Content Type: text/plain

Refresh my memory. What are the things I need to do to tune OS/2 for
old DOS programs?

1) AUTOEXEC.BAT: I know there's an AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the root
directory, which I presume is the _default_ for DOS. I seem to remember
some way to have a different DOS AUTOEXEC.BAT for some DOS sessions -
anyone remember?

2) CONFIG.SYS: Also, in the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file there are some DOS
settings. Anybody remember where a complete list of these might be?

Plus anything else I've forgotten. Thanks. :)

- Peter Skye

Notes:

-- I searched the SCOUG archives on AUTOEXEC and DOS but didn't find
any info. (I did find some other interesting stuff that I'd
forgotten.)

-- Can't find anything in the Warp 4 online help ("Assistance Center").

-- There's no Help or ReadMe file in \OS2\MDOS\

-- I _do_ know how to set the Session Properties for a DOS session.

What I'm doing:

-- Moving an old DOS mailing list system from a 16 MB DOS machine to an
OS/2 machine. The system has a customized EMS memory driver and 28
custom programs, plus 15 Procomm scripts (Procomm is modem communication
software). I did all the programming years ago and I'm sure I did
something that OS/2's DOS won't like. :)
