At the Saturday meeting there was a quick discussion about IBM Deskstar
drives spinning down when not being accessed.
I can't find any info on this at Deja or on the mail lists I get, but
the IBM drive jumper page for the 34 GB Deskstar has a jumper setting to
"disable auto spin" which "disables the drive from automatically
spinning up when power is applied". Might this be the cause of the
spindowns?
