Subject: SCOUG-General: Judge on Microsoft

News regarding the Microsoft options, as an adjunct to the issues rasied
at the last meeting.

From Thomson's Investor's Nework:

* Judge Jackson indicated he is prepared to recommend the breakup of
Microsoft (MSFT) in the landmark antitrust case and rejected MSFT's
request to delay the proceeding by up to sixth months. The judge
questioned whether the government's current plan to split the company
into two companies would simply create two monopolies, leaving open the
option of splitting MSFT into three companies. Microsoft's best chance to
thwart a breakup now lies in the appeals process, where the company will
include in its argument that it was not granted due process.
