Subject: SCOUG-General: SCOUG Meeting Jan. 20, 2001 at new location: Regal Lanes, Orange, CA

Content Type: text/plain

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG)
will be next Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 9:00 AM PST, at our new
meeting location: Regal Lanes in Orange at 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

SCOUG: Where We've Been, and Where We're Going

January 2001 --- what better time to take stock of SCOUG. We'll take a
brief look back at our goals and accomplishments, review our current
situation, then ponder the challenges and consider options for the
club's immediate - and more distant - future.

After the main meeting presentation, we'll have Q&A, a raffle, and then
the Saturday SIG meetings:

General Interest Group: Internet SIG leader Dave Watson and GIG leader
Tony Butka are going to team up for this month's presentation. Dave
will take us on-line on the Internet for a surprise adventure. Tony
will demo 4DOS/4OS2, showing why it is such a neat utility. And Tony
will try (again) to show Clearlook printing via PostScript/GhostScript
to his Lexmark ink-jet printer. Tony confirms that he will get all his
software loaded and checked out before the meeting. Cross your fingers
that Tony doesn't have a disk crash just before the meeting this time.

Programming SIG: Will review using REXX for CGI applications on an OS/2
based web server. Details will include how to interact with the web
server environment as well as tips on making your REXX CGI applications
secure.

Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PST. If you've
got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help.
For further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

Sunday, February 4, 2:30 PM PST meetings at Chapman University, Orange:

OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2
Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related
hardware and software, along with a detailed explanation of your problem.

Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members setting up a peer network
and connecting their local LAN to the Internet via a cable modem connection,
DSL connection, or a dial-up connection via an ISP.

Sundial SIG: A new SIG leader has volunteered. A meeting is planned
for February, but no specifics are available yet. Details will be
announced as soon as they are available.

How to get to Regal Lanes:

Regal Lanes is located on the east side of N. Tustin Ave., 2 blocks
north of Katella Ave. in the city of Orange, CA. It's at the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen.

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north)
at the signal onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal, which is the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen, you will see Regal Lanes on your right-hand
side. It's across the street from the Toyota of Orange auto dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from
the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the
main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd
floor; the meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left-hand side.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal
Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center
Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if
you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting
a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second
floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!
