The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG)
will be this Saturday, June 16, 2001 at 9:00 AM PDT, at Regal Lanes in
Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.
DFSee: Direct from the Netherlands!
Display File Systems (DFSee) is a generic partition and file system
browser/analyzer. Jan van Wijk, the program's author, will be here from
the Netherlands to show it to us.
DFSee supports partition tables (FDISK, LVM) (V)FAT, FAT32, HPFS
structures, some NTFS stuff, and it might support different file systems
like JFS and EXT2 in the future. For most purposes, DFSee is a complete
FDISK replacement, and at the moment, is a partial replacement for the
LVM utility. DFSee also includes several "fix" commands solving common
problems and a simple sector-editing function to make other kinds of
manual changes. For HPFS and NTFS, it also includes UNDELETE
functionality for files. DFSee is shareware, and you'll find it on
Hobbes (currently it is known as DFSEE339.ZIP).
We'll also have Q&A, a raffle, and then the Saturday SIG meetings:
Sundial SIG: Work continues on their project to keep track of one's
liquid assets using Mesa 2. The target is to make it easy to use with
lots of charts and consolidated information.
Internet SIG or General Interest Group: one or the other will have an
illuminating topic. Check the SCOUG website
(http://www.scoug.com/meetings.html) for the latest information.
The Programming SIG will resume in July (July 21).
Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PDT. If you've
got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help.
For further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html. (NOTE:
there will NOT be a chat on Wednesday, July 4).
Sunday, July 1, 2:30 PM PDT meetings at Chapman University, Orange:
OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2
Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related
components along with a detailed explanation of your problem.
Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members with various
networking issues.
How to get to Regal Lanes:
From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north)
at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal
you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of
Orange dealership.
There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from
the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the
main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd
floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.
Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.
OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal
Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!
How to get to Chapman University:
There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center
Street, Orange, CA.
You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if
you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting
a parking ticket.
Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second
floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.
Come and join us!
