Subject: SCOUG-General: SCOUG meeting March 17: Game Emulation on OS/2

Content Type: text/plain

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG)
will be this Saturday, March 17, 2001 at 9:00 AM PST, at our new
meeting location: Regal Lanes in Orange at 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

Game Emulation on OS/2

Jerry Rash, SCOUG's very own multi-media expert, will demonstrate how
he does game emulation on OS/2. You need three (3) things: the
emulation program, the game cartridge files that you'll be playing, and
the OS/2 joystick driver, which are all free and available on the
Internet. Should be fun!

After the main meeting presentation, we'll have Q&A, a raffle, and then
the Saturday SIG meetings:

Internet SIG and Sundial SIG: TBA

Programming SIG: Terry Warren will continue where he left off in
February. He'll cover the basics of TCP/IP, including addressing,
routing, and OS/2 tracing and packet formatting capabilities. Protocols
that will be discussed include ICMP (RFC 792 et al), ARP (RFC 826),
DHCP (RFC 1541), IP (RFC 791), UDP (RFC 768) and PPP (RFC 1661).

Help Desk chats are on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PST. If you've got a
problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. For
further info, go to http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

Sunday, April 1, 2:30 PM PDT meetings at Chapman University, Orange
(note Daylight Savings Time starts on this date this year):

OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2
Help Desk will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related
hardware and software, along with a detailed explanation of your problem.

Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members setting up a peer network
and connecting their local LAN to the Internet via a cable modem connection,
DSL connection, or a dial-up connection via an ISP.

How to get to Regal Lanes:

Regal Lanes is located on the east side of N. Tustin Ave., 2 blocks
north of Katella Ave. in the city of Orange, CA. It's at the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen.

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north)
at the signal onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal, which is the corner
of Tustin and Van Owen, you will see Regal Lanes on your right-hand
side. It's across the street from the Toyota of Orange auto dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from
the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the
main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd
floor; the meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left-hand side.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal
Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center
Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if
you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting
a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second
floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!
