Hi, Peter,

What I'm looking for is a named (the daemon that provides Domain Name
Service) to run on a Windows 2000 box. However, since it's students that
will be doing this, I don't want them hosing the entire planet when they
configure something incorrectly. So, we have such a box that will be
running Apache as a test box and I want them to configure the named so
that it's properly set up. Getting the ARP and RARP files correct
without errors is a serious problem and I want them to understand how to
do it the right way. In my view of the world, screwing up is the best
way to learn. And, if they screw up the tables so that they can't pass
their assignments in to my computer on the in-room network, I figure that
should make a definite impression! ;-)

And, you'd be amazed at the things I've "automated" with REXX (including
building a significant portion of the RARP as derived from the ARP on the
same server) and KEX that make life significantly easier!

Additionally, I want them to get experience configuring a DHCP server.
The pilot of IBM's class was quite good (even for a pilot) but I don't
expect that IBM would be willing to send somebody to my class to teach
it, so I'm looking for one of those as well. Since I expect most of them
don't have the graphical front end that the IBM server does, I figure the
kiddies will have an outstanding opportunity to screw that one up as
well. ;-)

Obviously, too, it's pretty boring to read configuration tables so
grading is easier if there's a live box to run them on.

Thanks.
vh
