Subject: SCOUG-General: Desktop restore

Content Type: text/plain

Where is the desktop located? I appears to be in X:\DESKTOP. Is that
all of it?

What is it necessary to save to be able to recreate it? What is the
recreation process? Can it be done using only what comes with OS/2?

I have three machines that are rather similar. They are all socket,
with OS/2 in a FAT extended partition. On two of them, ZIP and UNZIP
does a precise backup and restore of the boot partition. After restore
it appears to be exactly as it was when the ZIP was made.

On the third one it appears that the desktop subdirectory does not get
properly restored. There are very few objects on the desktop. I ran
CHECKINI and it created eleven numbered folders on the desktop,
containing most of the missing objects. Now I get to determine the
actual name of those folders and place them and their contents in the
proper position on the tree. I'll still have on way of knowing if the
desktop is complete and if it all works.

For a long time I used the desktop backup in Performance Plus but the
first time I needed it it failed so I quit that.

Any ideas?

Ray
