Subject: SCOUG-General: more charming fallout from a Win-centric world

Content Type: text/plain

Ditto JR's comments. I gave a beginning web class the assignment to
compare pairs of websites a week ago yesterday. Friday, I started getting
phone calls (you know students don't start on their homeworks until just
before they're due!) that this or that website was down. I give each of
those students a substitute website. Yesterday, I started writing emails
to the webmasters at the sites that were down, explaining the situation
and asking whether they were running MS servers. With one exception, all
said they were. The exception said he didn't know (DUH!!!!) because that
was a "network thing".

Total population surveyed: 18
Percentage of MS servers on these sites: 94.44444444
Percentage of stupid webmasters: 0.555555556

'Nuff said!
