Happy new year to all. Last year was fun, hopefully '03 will be even =
better. I don't have the stats, but I suspect our club is following the =
same curve as the stock market. Member participation is down. =
Commercial speakers are down. SIG meetings are down. We couldn't get a =
slate of officers to run. Our meeting hall is gone. Wherever we meet, =
whatever the topic, I'll make sure we have donuts. =20
Stocks should rebound this year, and hopefully SCOUG will, too.
I really enjoyed Lynn's presentation in December. It was intellectually =
and technically interesting, and it gives me hope that we can create a =
constructive outlet for SCOUG. I haven't done any significant coding =
for many years, but I'm looking forward to getting back into it. I quit =
before to save my marriage, but my priorities have changed over the =
years. And she has become more tolerant.
Lynn said he would publish the materials from his presentation. I hope =
you'll all look for it and I hope we can make it something we can use to =
develop SCOUG. I expect most of the discussion will be on =
scoug-programming, so I hope you'll all join that list. You don't have =
to be a programmer (they let me in) and there isn't much traffic. But =
we'll need all the help we can get.
We can take on projects, deliver improved programs to the community. We =
might even take Lynn's visions to heart and develop better tools for =
developing improved programs to deliver to the community. =20
Side note for anyone who has used my concentric.net address, I'm =
upgrading to cable and won't use that much longer. Reach me at =
david.watson@earthlink.net now.
