I have wavy lines on my main monitor which don't resemble anything I've
seen before and want to know if anyone else can corroborate this as a
hardware problem.

The monitor is a Sony 21" running 1600x1200 x 65K colors at 60 Hz. I've
tried other resolutions and color depths and the waviness doesn't
change. The waviness also occurs on the motherboard BIOS bootup screen,
i.e. in plain text mode.

However, the wavy lines I've seen many times in the past have always
been curvy -- the sides of the screen look like sine waves. The
waviness I have here is more of a square wave -- sort of a sine wave
which has been clipped so the top and bottom 80% of the curve is flat.

I did power down the machine and monitor and waited a full minute before
powering back up. No change; the lines are still wavy including the
motherboard BIOS bootup screen.

My educated guess is hardware. Sound reasonable?
