Hiya Sandy,
1 MB should be okay. Mine is typically 2 MB:
[G:\OS2]dir os2*.ini
6-20-01 9:53a 1646733 0 OS2.INI
6-20-01 9:17a 1867075 0 OS2SYS.INI
I had OS2.INI up around 6 MB once and my system ran noticeably slower.
