Harry,
There is no way this could have happened unless something was very broken
in your system. Let's say your boot drive was C:. It's "in use" by
definition. The Desktop is open and many DLL's and other files are open.
There's no way a chkdsk c: /f:2 would not report an error.
To see why a drive is in use, run Theseus and select:
System -> General System -> Open Files
