I have a new motherboard (Asus), and it has two sets of IDE connectors:
Primary/Secondary Ultra ATA 100 IDE and
Primary/Secondary IDE
My computer has two hard drives on the Primary connector, and a CD-RW
drive as slave on the secondary connector.
If I put all the drives on the Ultra ATA connectors, OS/2 boots up
normally and can see the CD Rom. However, I cannot boot from the CD Rom
Drive, and Windows can boot but cannot see the CD Rom Drive.
If I put all the drives on the regular IDE connectors, OS/2 hangs on boot
up at the point where it is loading the RSJ CD Filter.
If I put the hard drives on the Ultra ATA connectors (primary), and the
CD-RW on the regular IDE connectors (secondary), OS/2 will boot normally
but will not see the CD Rom drive. However, I can then boot from the CD
Rom and also Windows can now see the CD Rom.
The Promise Bios chip on the motherboard does not support booting from CD
Rom (using the ATA 100 connector).
My question is:
Is there a way to get OS/2 to see the CD Rom drive if I put in on the
regular IDE connector (secondary)? I have tried changing settings in CMOS
from Auto to CD Rom to Other ATAPI device, but it doesn't make any
difference. Is there some kind of IRQ conflict with OS/2 when I use the
regular IDE connector?
I hope this isn't too confusing.
Thanks,
Sandy
