You need a tool that allows you to edit the object settings and clear the
NODELETE setting. Unimaint cab do this as can several other tools such as
Object Desktop's Object Inspector or XWorkPlace's Object Tool to name a
couple.

The unable to write desktop is a sign of some other type of corruption.
Have you tried using Checkini to fix this?
