For the ABR version (newest and different from the BR version):
1. You will need to know if your ISP provides a static IP or by one DHCP.
a. The dynamic setup screen asks for host name. My cable IP is static so I can't give more help than
that on dynamic IPs.
b. For a static IP the info needed:
i. IP assigned by your ISP
ii. Subnet mask (probably 255.255.255.0)
iii. ISP gateway address
iv. Primary and secondary DNS
That is all I needed to connect to my cable modem. Note: there are other things you need to do but
the information needed will be determined by you. If you get an SMC we can walk you through the steps
at that time. It is a nice machine. I was told by SMC tech service that in the past they also sold
them through Amazon at a discount and may do so again.
FWIW, I found the BR version easier to set up but the ABR has at least one useful feature: the lease
time on a DHCP IP (on the LAN side - has nothing to do with your ISP's DHCP which is on the WAN side)
it serves can be set to 'forever'. Tech service said there will be no more firmware updates for the
BR version. They also said the BR cannot be upgradded to the ABR because they are very different
machines.
