Sandy:
A local (to me) computer store was "blowing out" their remaining
stock of original LSILogic/Symbios/NCR (53C810A-based) PCI
SCSI-II cards for $25 + tax. Might still be some there.
This card is essentially identical to the ASUS SC-200 and
the Tekram DC-310 (not U). These cards are non-bootable
and do not handle the Ultra SCSI rate of 40MB/s, but this
is a GOOD thing, as they are much more tolerant of sloppy
cabling, poor termination, etc. Updated OS/2 drivers are
on the LSILogic web site.
http://www.tekram.com/hot_products.asp?Product=DC-310_Series
No scanner is particularly fast, so 40MB/s is not needed, and
not really desirable. Fast data buses are much more sensitive
to everything being just perfect, and short! Being an external
device, scanner cables are often long.
I'd give you my ASUS SC-200 ($75 new) but it's still in use
driving my wife's SCSI CD-R at her work. Her school was too
poor to buy her the hardware, so I gave her some of mine --
still going strong after all these years!
If you cannot find what you want, this card (above) would be
a great choice. I work near Peter and we could easily work
out delivery. Or you could shop at Pricewatch.com. There the
Tekram DC-315, the replacement for the DC-310, is ~$20 plus tax
and shipping. I don't have any experience with the DC-315.
It uses a different manufacturer's chipset. I admit to bias,
as I used to work for NCR which became Symbios then LSILogic.

The DC-310 may still be available at swap meets (ACP) around.
It's been a while since it was manufactured, but it's an inexpensive,
good, if simple, SCSI HA. And that's what you want for just a scanner.
