Just as a followup.
I ended up deleting both subdirectories: /java11 and /jre11
Then I ran the runtime.exe, and the other program files from the root of
that directory, and it created a new /java11 subdirectory.
Config.sys has no references to /jre11.
I also did a unimaint repair. Everything seems to be in order (so far).
I usually pay close attention to instructions, but I sure missed the one
about running the program files from the root.
Thanks for all the help.
Sandy
>>Sandy - you should also check your CONFIG.SYS file for JRE11. It's
>>possible that one or more of your *path statements contain JRE11 in front
>>of Java11 which will cause older .exe's or .dll's to be loaded.
>In general, you don't what both JRE11 and JAVA11 in
>PATH/LIBPATH/CLASSPATH. JAVA11 is usually the correct choice. As I've
>noted before, the JRE contains nothing that's not already in the JDK.
