It's an email server. It comes with OS/2. I use it for my outgoing
email and it's adequate but not great. (I use it for outgoing email
because the email servers at my DSL provider [Verizon/GTE] and my
Eathlink account both block email unless you use the *one* email address
they give you in the "From:" field. Since I have my own domains which I
use for email, I can't use their email servers.)

You have a window with SendMail running? Is it in your Startup group?
Just press Ctrl-C to stop it and then reboot to see if it's gone.

The "cable connection" is just an Ethernet network connection afaik.

I'm not familiar with AUTOGET/2 or AUTOWGET since I run WGET from the
command line. If you can surf and email then it's not a network DNS
problem.

Have you just tried AUTOGET/2 and AUTOWGET on ftp sites or have you also
tried then on http servers such as www.scoug.com? This test is
important because ftp and http use different ports. If you can get to
www.scoug.com with Netscape then also try to get to
ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu with Netscape and see what happens. I don't know
the AUTO*GET* syntax but with WGET the following are both successful on
my machine:

cd \temp
wget ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu
wget http://www.scoug.com

What url are you trying to download, and can you download it "manually"
i.e. if it's ftp can you do this:

C>ftp hobbes.nmsu.edu
Name: anonymous
Password: pskye@peterskye.com (or yours)
ftp>quit
C>

If you can ftp manually then it's not your firewall. If you can't ftp
manually then see if you have ftp blocking turned on in the firewall
setup.
