My suggestion is that URL's shall be mentioned completely which
HTTP and WWW to make it accessible on a double-click straightaway:

http://www.bookfinder.com
http://www.abebooks.com

This is regarding your search for the Stokes book, or any of the
others. The proprietor of one used bookstore told me that most
such
establishments purposely *avoid* carrying used computer-related
books,
as they tend to be long term dead weight on the shelves. He told
me
of one in Glendale that was an exception, and I happened to stop
in
there. They did have a computer book section, with a couple of
ancient (like circa OS/2 ver. 1.2 era !!) books, but otherwise no
luck. The proprietor of _that_ shop was helpful, though, and
gave me
the following info.

Amazon is not a good choice for books not currently in print and
readily available. He said that for books other than current
issue,
they only serve as a middleman, and the high price they'll quote
reflects their considerable piece of the action in facillitating
your
acquisition of the book from whoever actually has it somewhere.
He
also told me that Acres of Books in Long Beach (which I mentioned
previously) can easily turn into an all-day affair, due to its
great
size, poor organization of what they have, and dim lighting
inside.

Instead, he had a couple of online suggestions, plus one specialty
shop. The online ones are BookFinder.Com (sounds like a search
service to me), and ABEbooks.Com. The physical store is OpAmp, in
Hollywood, which specializes in technical books of all sorts,
including good coverage of computer subjects. They mainly deal
in
new books, of course, but we both recalled them having a rather
large
used section as well. (Probably no bargain pricing, though.) I
haven't been there in several years -- which must be why I did not
think of it earlier -- but it is an impressive place. Since it is
much closer to me than to you, I could probably stop in there for
you,
but it would have to be towards the end of the month.
