Sometimes, it's better to trade off size for ease of understanding and
maintenance. If I chose to, I could reimplement Harry's code with the
same features and functionality, but with a lot less code. However, this
would make extensive use of loops and stem variables and others might find
it harder to modify for their own use. Harry's code has the advantage
that folks, like you, with less familiarity with REXX, can successfully
change it without breaking it.

Exactly. It rare that there's only one best way to implement a task.
What we are seeing here is the normal pulll that competing requirements
has on any project.
