Sometimes a driver, lib file, or even an executable won't show a version you can find with a hex editor (which
is really annoying), due to some kinda "stealth" coding, an absent-minded programmer, or who knows why.
Fortunately I think this wasn't one of those. I found the string

#OEM:9.50#@ Adaptec 7800 Family Driver for OS/2 (d2.4 990408)

inside the AIC7870.ADD I'm using, and

#OEM:9.50#@ Adaptec 7800 Family Ultra2 Driver for OS/2 (d4.12 990408)

inside the AIC78U2.

I can't recall what else might have been problemmatical, other than Compare operations failing when using the
then current CDS product on tape backups, but the problems went away after I plugged in this version from their
site. I sort of doubt it's still there, but if so maybe there is still some explanatory info regarding this.
(FWIW, I don't recall BackMaster ever having this problem, regardless of the driver version in use.)

You are welcome to the version I have here. Just let me know. I don't plan on changing it until / unless
there is some compelling reason to do so. (I'm not by nature an experimenter, like our fine feathered friend .
. . . )
