Sandy, my notes say that's a "Double Fault" but I haven't the slightest
idea what that means or what causes it. Sorry.

I do this by renaming the directory (or the .exe). If you have the
antivirus program in \Norton\ then change it to \Norton_\ for example.
Or if the program is named Norton.exe change it to Norton.exe_.

*If* you do this from your maintenance partition you should be okay. If
you rename from your production partition (the partition you normally
boot to) and you rename using the Workplace Shell (right click on the
object, then change its name) the Startup folder will still find the
program because it's connected through the object name -- therefore,
renaming from a command line is the proper way to do it.

Make sure you rename the file or directory *AND* rename it back to its
original name using the *same* boot partition and *same* method (either
command line or Workplace Shell). That means *don't* rename it to
"Norton_" from the Workplace Shell but rename it back to its original
name from the command line! The command line rename won't change the
name in the object so if you combine both methods you'll leave your
object "out of sync".

I always rename from the command line when I'm subverting the Startup
folder. I never use the Workplace Shell because of the "out of sync"
problem.
