I plan to jump from my current 256 to 512, but can't forsee needing more than
that any time soon. Maybe things have changed, and this is no longer relevant,
but the former Compuserve Sysop Ron Higgin, in response to a similar question
from me a couple years back, described something called the "Heavy Iron"
effect.
He said that massive amounts of RAM could actually make the system more
sluggish. I don't know the detailed skinny on this, but he said that research
papers had been published on the subject. I can tell you for sure that the
more
RAM you have, the longer it will take your machine to boot up. And probably
to reboot.
