Hi Sheridan =

Thanks a lot for the reply with your detailed information.

I have read and tried it not with big luck ;-( but with big luck
accidentally ;-))

Now I try to give my experiences feedback into your text below:

>> > My SMC 7004 Barricade Router works fine but I do also have
>> > difficulties to use its Print Server feature.

Just with the accidentally big luck I have seen my Canon BJ-230 =

connected to the SMC 7004 BR printing a "Print Screen" properly
;-))

>OK, try these instructions:
>
>1) open the templates folder and drag a printer object to the
desktop.
>2) in the dialog box that comes up automatically, under Name
replace "Printer" with the name you want
>for this printer.
>3) LMC on 'Install new printer driver'
>4) in the new dialog box find your printer or select 'Other OS/2
printer driver', insert a floppy with
>the driver, and install the driver.
>5) DLMC on \pipe\lpd0
>6) in the new dialog box:
> 6a) under 'Print Destination' for 'LPD server' type in the
SMC's IP address (192.168.nnn.254).
> 6b) for 'LPD printer' type in lp (lower case LP).
> 6c) LMC on OK
>7) If you want this printer as the default printer select (LMC)
it as the default printer.
>8) LMC on Create

I followed these instructions except that I used pipe\lpd1
instead of lpd0 ...
=2E.. my idea is LPT1 is the local Canon BJc-6100 on my system
WS210. =

In future I will always connect local printers to LPT1 and use
LPDx as NON-local printers.

>You now have a printer object that points to the SMC's printer
port. Before it can be used the
>printer redirection software needs to be started. That is done
in the TCP/IP configuration notebook.
>
>1) Open the TCP/IP Configuration notebook (LAN). (The icon for
mine is in Programs\TCP/IP Internet
>(LAN) folder.)
>2) Select the 'Autostart' tab.
>3) About the middle of the list is 'lprportd'. Select it. Click
on 'Autostart service' to enable it. =

>Make sure 'detached' is selected.
>4) Close the notebook.
>5) Reboot.

OK, redone. It was already like you suggested ;-)

>Choose a document to print. You can drag the icon of the
document to be printed and put it on top of
>the printer icon or from an application print to this printer
(making sure it is the selected printer
>if you have different default printer on your system).

NO luck ;-(
NO luck - even setting as "default printer" ;-((

I have rechecked all settings of my printer objects (BJc-6100,
Fxprint, IBMnull and the newest one =

connected to the print server: =

Canon BJ-230 which I named BR254 ! - There are no redirections
and all the settings seem OK ;-)

After "consulting" tcphelp and playing with its commands I
accidentally got a proper printout of the =

explantation of "LPD" as a "Print Screen" ...
=2E.. THE FIRST PROPER PRINTOUT via my SMC 7004 BR ;-))

Now I happily know that this print server is able to work with my
system environment !
I also know that my printer settings, like checked just now, are
correct !!
But somehow my system settings seem to have anything mismatched
or something needed =

previously is not set nor running !?

But what and where ?

Just did another experiment:

In TCPCFG I have set LPD to "detached Autostart" too ...
=2E.. and now with drag'n drop I am able to get my autoexec.bat
printed out on PS's BJ-230 ;-))
but "print autoexec.bat" on a command line starts the BJc-6100 on
LPT1 and does not print ;-((

Why is the local BJc-6100 on LPT1 reacting even if BJ-230 on
BR254 is set as default ??

This mismatch really confuses me !
I also do not know which commands to try while iptrace is
activated !?

Your hints and suggestions are very appreciated ;-)
Once again: Thanks for your efforts ;-))

Regards, svobi
