Would that setup be as simple a connecting a plain 4-port hub between the cable modem and router with
a third port going to another computer or does it mean I must dust off my old InJoy 486 and substitute
it for the router?

Yeh, that's what I'm curious about. Plus, if ever I can't get to sleep I'll have several pages of
IPformat to rectify the problem.
