This is typical. The WPS slowly degrades so it's not really noticable.
Eventually, it will stop working and the user will be amazed at how much
garbage checkini or unimaint find to clean up. :-)

When you do that, you are backing up the Desktop. The modification
suggested by others for additional items to backup are useful too. If you
know how to do this kind of backup, you probably also know how to restore
the Desktop too.

If you had known, you could have just used the built-in Desktop restore
and avoided the reinstall, assuming the backup was good.
