I don't think chkdsk is involved at all. I was talking about choosing a
desktop restore off the bottom of the initial boot selection screen. I
suspect that chkdsk is influenced by the size of the partition, the forma=
t
type, and the amount of movement/change in file structures that occurred =
on
the partition since the last reorg or format. In my case I'm not sure if =
a
chkdsk against an HPFS drive would be the same as for a FAT drive either,=

or if it makes any difference. =

Interestingly, when it hangs (after the config.sys statements are listed,=

during the blank blue screen just before the desktop begins to appear) an=

I have to ctrl-alt-del to reboot, chkdsk doesn't get invoked as it would =
if
you were to do that with the desktop up & running (chkdsk always occurs
early in the reboot before many of the config.sys statements are listed).=
