One problem down, time for the next one. My one eComStation test machine is
having a bunch of network problems. Mainly, peer networking is a huge problem.
It seemed to install properly when the machine was initially set up. However, I
tried to log in and although I was pretty sure I remembered the password, it
acted as if it didn't recognize me: Login unsuccessful. Thinking maybe my
memory was failing, I removed peer networking and tried reinstalling in what
seemed to be every way possible (are there twenty ways now, or is it just me?).
I tried using NPCONFIG.EXE, Wise machine for First Time Networking Install, Wise
machine for peer networking. Each seems to work but ends in a similar result.
When I try to log in, login is similarly unsuccessful. (This is after the
netcard drive loads successfully and the requester is properly started at boot
up). Any ideas?

The other problem seems to be with Netscape/TCPIP, although I can't quite
figure it out because it is intermittent. It may be related to the above
problem but I don't think so. Most of TCPIP seems to work properly (ftp, ping,
etc.) but Netscape is highly selective in what it allows connections to. Yahoo,
Google and NeoPets (the kid's destination) seem to be inaccessible but others
(IBM software sites) seem to be okay. Since this machine uses my machine as
it's gateway to the 'Net, when it tries and fails, it seems like it cocks up the
gateway to prevent other machines from connecting to the same sites that it
can't connect to. Other TCPIP apps work fine so it's not a DNS problem (I can
"ping yahoo.com" and the address gets resolved and responds to pings even while
Netscape is hanging while trying to access the site) and FTP-PM works fine too.
Netscape was removed and reinstalled a couple of times - the same one that is
working fine elsewhere on my network.

This is an eCS machine with no fixes applied as yet. I can understand some
errors with networking but these don't seem like the "fixpak fixes it" variety.
Maybe a TCPIP patch would fix that latter one, but not even allowing me to login
to peer network seems more intense than that. Machine details are at the end.

Thanks to all in advance.
