Other errors, of the "Incorrect Syntax" variety, at least over here. But
. . . never mind.

Steven, Peter, Sheridan, and any other interested parties:

In science, it has been called the "Principle of Parsimony," or Occam's
Razor: generally speaking, the simplest explanation that accounts for the
facts is to be preferred. Failing that, step it up to the next increment
of complexity, and so forth.

First, I tried Steve Carter's clean-the-cd-with-toothpaste trick. This
made the cd a whole lot cleaner, but did not alter the results. Perhaps
the next-level action would be to put in a cleaning cd coated with its
cleaning solution -- in case the drive lens had become dirty -- but I've
never done that before and wanted to hold off on it. (Suppose this
actually made things worse ?) The Adaptec driver or cable / connector
type issues struck me as a further level removed from plausibility.
Instead, I substituted the CDFS.IFS from FP-15 for the one circa FP-9
that I had been using, as Steven had suggested. And Voila' -- everything
now shows up, on both CDs #2 that I have, in either CD-drive.

Keep it simple, folks, and never bet against Mr. K.I.A. !

Jordan
