Umpire Duck gives the introductions:
"In this corner, Dallas Muscleman Legan representing the DEVICE IFS
sequence"
"And in this corner, Steven The Barber Levine representing the IFS
DEVICE sequence"
There's the Bell! And the winner is . . .
Umpire Duck !
who put the following false driver lines into his CONFIG.SYS and
rebooted to find out what sequence the error messages would appear in:
BASEDEV=TESTBAS1.ADD
DEVICE=TESTDEV1.SYS
IFS=TESTIFS1.IFS
BASEDEV=TESTBAS2.ADD
DEVICE=TESTDEV2.SYS
IFS=TESTIFS2.IFS
BASEDEV= are loaded first (everybody agreed on that). DEVICE= and IFS=
error messages were intertwined; they are processed on the same "scan".
Note: It makes sense to expect that the drivers are loaded as they are
encountered, but it is *possible* that the CONFIG.SYS process is
"stacking" the driver names somewhere and loads all of them *after*
reading the entire CONFIG.SYS. To test for that possibility, I need
some kind of ECHO.SYS device driver which simply displays whatever
parameters are on its line. That way, I will have a valid device driver
which can identify itself. Does anybody know of such a driver?
