Hi Jordan,

I don't know if my experience will help you, as I bought my Thinkpad two
years ago. It is a 600E model, and I bought it at an auction site,
Onsale.com, I think they are gone now.

Actually I bought two of them, one for me and one for my daughter to take
to college. I got one for $1,800 and the other for $1,600. Each came in
sealed IBM carton with three year parts and labor warranty from IBM.

The service is impressive. My daughter's Thinkpad developed a problem with
the screen a few months ago. She called IBM, they sent her a box the next
day, picked up the computer a day later, and returned it completely
repaired two days after that. All was covered under the warranty.

She uses Windows as preinstalled, but I partitioned the hard drive on mine
and installed OS/2 Warp, now at FP 15.

The built in modem required special OS/2 drivers that I got from the IBM
Thinkpad web site, and I got help from the SCOUG group here in configuring
it. I installed a PCMCIA network card from Linksys, which had OS/2 drivers
that did not work. Steven found a driver for me that did work. If I had it
to do over, I would get a 3Com pcmcia card with more reliable OS/2
drivers.

I relplaced the 6 gig hard drive on each computer with a 20 gig IBM hard
drive that I got from gogocity.com for about $100 each. I also got an
extra battery that replaces the CD Rom drive, for about $20 at ubid.com.

I think the IBM web site has closeouts on older models at good prices. Be
sure and get one that comes with the three year IBM warranty, wherever you
buy it.

I love the keyboard and the screen. It is a great computer for traveling,
and I can check email from anywhere there is a telephone. With both
batteries charged and installed, I can work all day.

I hope that answers your question.
Sandy
