Ok, I guess I got ahead of myself.
I restored the original Protocol.ini and went into MPTS
I removed the Linksys card.
I then added the 3COM card (the closest one to my 3CXE589ET was one that
said "Megahertz 10 mbps PC Card"). That boot without errors, but when it
came to DHCP start, the connection failed. The computer now recognizes the
card, but the led on the card does not illuminate, and I can't talk to my
network.
I think there must be one more tweak somewhere, but I'm not sure where to
look.

No, I see no /IG switch.

Could this be an IRQ conflict? I checked the card under Windows and is
uses IRQ 7 there (and it works). I see no IRQ reference in the
Protocol.ini.
Thanks,
Sandy
