For those of us that are using Lexmark Optra 40 printers on a LAN, here's bummer news:

If you cannot get [two way (my edit; sg)] communication over the network to align the  
cartridges, and should you ever need to align the cartridges you will need  
to attach the printer to a computer locally to align the cartridges.
