Good point.  I don't know if S.M.A.R.T. technology or something similar  
is incorporated into SCSI drives.  I *have* heard that today's SCSI  
drives are actually IDE drives with an onboard chip that processes the  
SCSI commands; if true, then the statistics are being accumulated and  
it's just a matter of getting the information through the SCSI  
interface.
