The are backups created by the various install programs. If you
understood what you were looking at, you could probably use one of the to
restore your system to the state it was in just before you attempted to
install RSJ. The files should cause no problems, but if you are not
goting to attempt to restore, they are essentially useless so why not
delete them. The choice is yours.

Now that you have 3 backups, turn the archive mechanism off until you need
to make a new backup. If you leave the archive mechanism on and you have
a problem, you might overwrite the good backups before you realize you
need them.

The best way to make use of the archive mechanism is:

- turn it on just before installing a new application
- make a backup
- turn it off
- install the application
- verify that the install went OK
- turn on the archive mechanism
- make a backup
- turn off the archive mechanism

This is cumbersome and requires several reboots and explains why many of
us use alternative desktop backup tools.

This is overkill for applications that make few or no changes to the
Desktop. For these, just saving a copy of config.sys is sufficient. Of
course, you need the experience to know when this is the case.

It's also a good idea to make a backup every couple of weeks or so or
whenever you make significant changes to the desktop.

Steven
