Steven, here is our prior exchange:

Why are you using load? It's not a valid DOS command. <<<<<

Why are you doing this?
Append is not a valid option for loadhigh. <<<<<

FWIW, anything you can do in autoexec.bat you can do from a DOS VDM
command line. You should be doing these experiments from the command line
so you can see what's failing and what's not.

As I also previously stated, trying to issue d:\os2\system\share.exe from a
dos fullscreen prompt results in an "invalid DOS program" message.

So what do you consider to be a "valid DOS command"?

OK, I'll try, if I can figure out how to get Win95 to boot that way, and how
to get it back to normal afterwards (seems to me I've had this problem
before).

I think so too, but I'm running out of ideas for things to try to make it
believe share.exe is loaded.
