It happens that back when you mentioned this, I was confusing it with Yahoo Groups,
which took over the old EGroups. There are about 70 of those (for OS/2), most of
which are members only. I used to visit some of them, back when it was still
EGroups, but it's been a long time and I never got around to checking out their
revamped facility. Now I see that Google Groups appears to be what took over the old
Deja News. The searching interface that Google implemented strikes me as a vast
improvement over the way it was under Deja. For anyone lacking the time or interest
to actively monitor their newsgroups of choice, these searches may constitute a handy
alternative.

Re the topic at hand: I read through 4 pages worth of hit links, saving pieces of
different threads as I went, and found some interesting material. (I'm not sure yet
how useful it will turn out to be.) As you might expect, a lot of it is either
WIN-oriented or only tangentially relevant. Many messages reach back to 1999, and
refer to 3-level or 4-level firmware, whereas I've been on 5x f/w for quite some
time. It is interesting to find a lot of Chat etc. + various security measures users
who are either quite knowledgeable in the subject or who are certainly trying to come
off as if they are (and I'm sure this principle could be applied to innumerable
threads on a myriad of subjects), **directly contradicting each other.** And
sometimes not very nicely, either. Ah, but I guess that's the newsgroups for you.

What have I learned so far ? Sonicwall is said not to support ICQ (not much the same
thing as IRC, I hope), CUseeMe, NetMeeting, and a few other things. SonicSys is said
to not be very helpful on the info and support end, which isn't all that divergent
from my own experience with them. I haven't been to their website in a good while,
though, and that is probably my next stop.

Jordan
