After a dozen or so reboots to check various driver configurations, I
have found that the new DaniS506 version 151 dated 30Sep2002 breaks the
two Secondary (but not the two Primary) IDE drives' error reporting on
my main machine. I have a VIA 571 chipset on this machine; I haven't
tested on any other machines thus don't know if it breaks on all
machines or only on this chipset.
I have no trouble *using* the two Secondary IDE drives, but the error
reporting with \OS2\HDMON.EXE or the new SmartMon.exe does not work.
(http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/disk/smartmon.zip -- it's a great
new utility and I have it running permanently on my desktop with a
six-hour update cycle.)
The solution is to backlevel to DaniS506 version 145 dated 18Jun2002.
I'd be *very* interested to hear from anyone using DaniS506 version 151
because I'd like to find out if the problem is unique to my VIA 571
chipset or if it happens on all machines: When you run \OS2\HDMON.EXE
do your Secondary channel IDE drives show a "green" indication or
instead a "no color" indication? I'd also like to know your chipset,
which you can get by running the DumpIDE utility that comes in the
DaniS506 package and looking at the non-hex lines of the output.
