I finally figured out the problem with the tempfiles.
All the documentation mentions environmental
variables TMP, TEMP, TMPDIR, and LYNX_TEMP_DIR
as pretty much equally valid for specifying
the temporary file directory.
However only the last, which is new with this
version of Lynx as far as I can tell works.
Ext-2 and ramfs file systems both seem to be
valid for the filesystem the temp files can be on.
