Peter: I don't know if this has anything to with your situation, but I
question your concept of an object "pointing" to an icon. The object
appears to "contain" the icon. I store my icon files on another
physical, removable drive. The object is in the boot partition. When I
want to replace an icon I just drag the new one to the object prefs.
The image on that object is not thereafter dependent on the existence
of that second drive. Objects do point to executables and you can
change that and keep the same icon.
