O.K., I took a (very) quick look at News Harvest, and I'm thinking it
may be Yesterday's news. (Maybe I'm not being fair here . . . )
So, I installed ProNews into ECS for some testing, but I can't get it
to do anything. I entered what I take to be the necessary config
information into the configuration notebook, starting with the
intended News Server, my username, and password. I did not fill in
the line of boxes that goes
Server Hostname Alias Port (this is
already filled in by default)
because I don't know what this is or if it is necessary.
Anyway, ProNews suggests that it is connecting to retrieve the master
list of available newsgroups, but NOTHING happens -- even waiting for
a very long time. I can hit 'E' for Execute a number of times. At
one point, it claimed to have 43 connections open, which I gather is
not possible. I think it is bombing out attempting to connect, but
there is no clear error about this. Funny, but NS 4.61 never had a
problem getting this far. I probably just don't know what I'm doing,
but so far this program is worthless to me. Oh, one other thing --
whatever I enter into the Config Notebook does not stick; it ain't
there, the next time I call up the program. Flipping through the
Online Help has not been particularly helpful, in terms of being able
to just get in through the front door.
Suggestions ?
Jordan
